Shoe Connection has proudly served as a cornerstone of the fashion footwear industry for over 75 years. Our journey began in 1938 when Cecil Bank opened our first store, Banks Shoes, on Lower Hutt’s High Street, New Zealand. From these humble beginnings, we have grown into a beloved brand renowned for our commitment to quality, style, and customer satisfaction.
1959: A New Era of Innovation
In 1959, Cecil's son John joined the family business, infusing it with new energy and vision. Under John's leadership, we expanded our product offerings and embraced innovative trends. By 1965, the original Banks Shoes store had doubled in size, and we were one of the first companies in New Zealand to import the iconic Adidas brand from Germany. This period marked the beginning of our dedication to bringing the best of global fashion to our customers.
1991: The Birth of Shoe Connection
Our significant transformation came in 1991 when we opened our first Shoe Connection store in Porirua, Wellington. This store showcased the best of the Banks Shoes range with a youthful flair, quickly becoming the leading fashion footwear store in Wellington. The success of this store led to the opening of three additional stores in the Wellington region, solidifying our reputation as a trendsetter in the industry.
A Journey of Growth and Success
Throughout the years, Shoe Connection has continued to expand and innovate. We embraced the digital age in 2008 with the launch of our first e-commerce store. Our online presence has been celebrated, with shoeconnection.co.nz named one of the Top Ten websites by Australian Woman's Day NZ Edition in 2014.
Today, Shoe Connection has become an international brand, with five locations in both Melbourne and Sydney Australia, and four locations in New Zealand. We continue to offer a curated selection of premium fashion footwear for men and women, sourced from leading designers around the world.
Driven by a deep passion for footwear and backed by over 40 years of expertise, our buyers continue to travel the world to find the finest shoemakers. Our journey has lead us to Italy, Spain, Turkey and Greece, where we discovered factories celebrated for their quality craftsmanship and innovative designs.
